Cannot get to dos, tried everything...any ideas?

As I said, I am unable to get to bios so I can boot to my cd. I have a 64-bit Vista repair disk, but I am unable to boot to either that or an Acronis rescue disk. PLEASE help! What can I try? I've tried every F-1 through F-12 combo I can think of...holding them down, pushing repeatedly, holding esc...holding delete, nothing is working. My screen is black...meaning, it is just like it is when in hibernation, etc. During all of my attempts, it did work once and went to my desktop, but unfortunately I tried to restore my acronis image instead of doing a system restore.

Any ideas of how I can get into bios so I can get to my boot menu? Anything quirky that worked for you in the past?

Thanks.

You need to go into the BIOS setup and set the CD drive as the 1st boot device...
Then press F10 to "save changes and Exit" out of setup.
It should now work.

Re: Cannot get to bios, tried everything...any ideas?

That is precisely the problem patio, I can't get to the bios to have it boot to cd. Everything I tried, I get the same result. The cd will spin if I hold down esc., but it won't read it and/or boot off of it.

Any ideas of how I can get to the boot menu?

Which disc spins? The Acronis or Vista disc?

If it's the acronis disc, it may not have been burnt as a 'bootable' disc.

If its not burnt correctly it needs to be burnt in the .iso format.

On Dell's it's F12 to access the boot menu where you can select the CD/DVD drive.
And it's the F2 to get into the BIOS.
