Insufficient space to perform backup

Hi
Sorry if this post is in the wrong place !

Whilst trying to do a full system backup to a 500gb external hard drive, Vista returns the message - insufficient space to perform backup. There is in excess of 400 gb available on the external drive and only 38gb needed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is your external hard drive's file system Fat32 or NTFS?

Is your backup program writing temporary files for the backup to your C: drive ? Some do that.

You might check and see how much free space is on your C: drive.
