Gday

Today I purchased a 1 TB WD External Elite Harddrive.

Me being me didn't read the instructions properly on the fact on how it does auto backups.

So I partitioned the drive in half, now I cannot get the full 1TB back

I have so far tried deleting it, and then tried to extend the first half of it back, but it keeps coming up with just unallocated space, HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!

Does the drive have any data? If so is it possible to back it up?

If it is, then you could try the following:

Plug in the drive, switch it on etc.... Let the USB device get recognised.

Now right click Computer>>Manage>>Continue.

Now in the Computer Management window,in the pane on the left, under Storage, click Disk Management.

Right-click and delete the volumes on your external drive. MAKE SURE its the right drive.

Then create a new volume with the maximum size.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does have data on it, nothing that I am not prepared to lose, as I said I only bought it today

Ok fixed the partition it is now back to the full 1TB.

Now when I try to do a back using Vista's backup and recovery, it is telling me the drive is corrupted.

However when it was split in two halves 500GB each, it (Vista) chose the newly created partition.

I am at a loss as to how this WD 1TB External My Book Elite supposedly keeps creating backups.

I have googled my a** off trying to figure it out :(

More than likey it shows corrupted because you shrunk, then unshrunk the volume. If WD supplied a format utility with the drive use it to reformat it as a 1 Tb drive then try again, if not format it with your OS then try again.
