Hello,
I've got a brand new HP Slimline 5123 sitting on my desk. Opened up the box yesterday, put it all together, downloaded updates (everything recommended, including SP1 & SP2), got my programs set up. Everything went fine.
Today I tried to install an HP printer (Desktop F4480). Went through the power-up, installing toner, aligning the print heads. All fine. But as soon as I put the software CD into the CD/DVD drive, I get this error:
"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail."
The basic printer functions will work without the software, but we need the software installed to access the other functions, like scanning. Not being overly familiar with Vista, as I don't use it myself, I don't know specifically where to look for application event logs. So I searched for all logs, and then sorted by date. There are no logs with today's date.
Googling the error message, I see a lot of people have experienced something similar, but nothing involving the CD/DVD drive.
Any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated.
