Where is processor name filled in?

Hi,

There are many programs, which get our processor name (e.g. "QuadCore Intel Core 2 Q9550, 2833 MHz (8.5 x 333)" in Everest). I wonder if I could deceive these programs by changing some variable (in register?), so programs couldn't get my real processor name.

Thanks

I don't think you would be able to. I think that your processor name is written inside of your BIOS. I guess you could try making your own BIOS but i wouldn't recommend it.

Of all the things I can think of that I might want to hide, the processor name isn't even close to one of them. Maybe if he takes it out and pries it apart he can find it under a magnifying glass and scrape it off :>

i think he is testing if the programs are actually that good, not just getting it from vista.

Well either way he'll have to change the BIOS right? Doesn't Vista get it from the BIOS and then the program for Vista?
