[Problem] Disk Read Error - Assistance, Please

I own an Asus K50IJ notebook that runs Vista SP2 x64.

I am unable to load up the OS on my notebook. When I power it on, it says that there is a "Disk read error, press Crtl, Alt, Del to restarñ". Yes, there's an 'n' with a tilda instead of the 't'.

When I try to boot up the Windows Boot Manager, it says that "Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CDR drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage device is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to receive this error message contact the hardware manufacturer.
Status xce
Info An unexpected IO error has occurred"
Note: the above message took over 3 hours to finsh loading, letter by letter.

Since then, consecutive startups have automatically loaded Windows Boot Manager, despite numerous attempts to exit out of it. I have no idea what's going on or if there's anything I can do short of sending it in or getting a new notebook altogether. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
