Windows 7 vs XP compatibility

I have a program that won't run on VISTA. When I try to install the program on a VISTA OS, I get a message that the OS is not adequate for running the program. I downgraded to XP so I could run the program (not dual boot). Is it possible that my program will run on Windows 7? If so, how can I test that out? I don't know anyone who has Windows 7. I bought this program from AVON and it is only good for AVON product order/invoice/customer data base/inventory of stock. AVON won't upgrade the program. Any help out there?

Re: Windows 7 vs XP compatibility

Win7 Pro has an inbuilt virtual XP mode. That should work.
From your system specs I would upgrade to Win7 Professional 64bit.
Then perform a clean install.

Any questions about clean install check this out:

It must be a pretty important program.

Re: Windows 7 vs XP compatibility

My own personal experience is that Win7 was far more compatible in running XP-era apps than was Vista. But, in all fairness, the experience will vary based on what compatibility setting you choose in Win7.

One place you could check on the Win7 compatibility is our sister site --sevenforums.com. There are a couple of pinned threads there on known compatible and known incompatible apps. You can at least see if your app is included in either list.
