what's wrong with vista?

Hello,

I have and found this forum while I was trying to figure out how to switch from vista to xp. I have found a few thread on the subject, pretty much implying that there was no possible way (my computer has been bought last year in another country so my supplier cannot be reached easily).
Many of the answers were asking: why switch from vista to xp?
Well, personally, I am not a great geek, but I am amazed how much complications with softwares seem to result from vista. And the greatest of all, for me, is the incapacity to edit my movies (which was the main purpose of my purchase). According to what I experienced and read on other forums, Vista does not recongnize most of the camcorders (with Premiere or Movie maker) and I have been unable to install avid either... anyone has a solution for me? cheers!

Hello edufour,
Although Avid is not compatible with Vista, there are plenty of programs that will do the same job that are, if you Google it you will find lots.
Most of the sound/video problems are caused by poor codecs, again, if you Google it you will find that there are lots out there that work with Vista.
Good luck.

there are some programs with vista which needs to be set up to run as administrators.. Check those features.., If you are kind of a geek or want to invest more in the well going of your pc.. Hangon with the vista for a while.. once Windows 7 is well tested and running smoothly with no issues.. you can switch to windows 7 and have the windows xp installed and running on the same OEM like virtual windows, so you can run your xp applications on xp and use windows 7 as well..
Thought??
Cheers

Thanks for the advice... but unfortunately, no, I am nothing of a geek so I am not sure to have understood everything that was said about Windows 7. What I know is that every vista users of all the blogs visited seem to agree on the incapacity to capture and import sequences from a mini dv cam on Movie Maker and that Avid will just not do it.

What are the names of the other editing programs that work well with vista? What I found strange is that my computer came with vista AND Movie Maker installed.
Since imovie works only with Mac and my laptop doesn't seem strong enough for Final Cut, what editing software option is left?

Cheers mate!

Cheers mate!

I am looking into buying a video camera and I'd like to read those blogs. Can you post links to the blogs you are referring to?

Thanks

My Computer

I haven't noted them down. Just google Movie maker+vista and camcorder or mini DV cam. Or formulate a question like: How do you capture or import clips from video cam with movie maker and vista...

From what I read, there is not much to do with the camera you're gonna choose... more with vista.

Good Luck!

If the problems persist, why not go back to XP then? Vista is a good OS, a bit of a Hog with resources and not so user friendly with us mere mortal users. Compatibility is another issue

As you say, you are not a geek and if you want to use your PC solely for video editing, going back to XP might be your answer.

Hmmm. already. Might sound stupid but how is that done? I bring it to a tech that would disinstall vista and upload xp? What about all the files and programs of the computer? Would everything be lost (or do I need to put everything on an hard drive?)

Thankkks again

ps. I don'T specifically want to use Window movie maker (especially since I don't really like that program), but do anyone have THE NAME of an editing software compatible with vista?

My Computer

But wouldn't codec packs work with movie maker? I've personnally never had any problems since installing the k-lite codec pack.

I may be mistaken here since I very rarely use such programs.
