Need to COMPLETLY restore computer to factory settings

A few weeks ago my computer died from a windows update it automatically did, i managed to get back onto the computer by booting my OS disk to save my files and now i need to completly restore my computer back to factory settings.
I Don't want to restore it back to a certain point, or repair my system as i log on, which is all i seem to be able to find in other posts, i just want to completly restore it back to day 1.
F11 doesnt work when i turn my computer on (yes im doing it right and ive tried it LOTS of times), F8 brings up a screeen i dont want, booting from teh OS disk just boots the pc normally and alt F10 doesnt seem to be bringing the page that i need up, just an editing page.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as i really need my computer, deadlines and all.

hate to be the bearer of bad tidings. I have the feeling you are going to have to do a re-install. do you have the vista dvd? or a restore dvd?

i know you say you have tried f11 but i have just done it,! dont restart!, completely shut down wait five minutes then hit start, then start tapping f11 immediately the screen should give you the option for system restore, click no, the next screen should come up giving you the opton factory recovery, click yes,and then follow directions on the screen, hope its of some help, good luck. patch41

What is the make of your PC? The reinstallation procedures are different depending on make. F11 happens to be the entry point for HPs - but for e.g. Toshiba you have to press and hold the zero key whilst powering on and for Dell and Gateway/E-machines you use the F8 key, etc..
