rstrui.exe is missing

When I try:

Start>control panel > system > system protection

Only 3 tabs are available: computer name, hardware, advanced

Shouldn't there be "system protection" and "remote" tabs as well?

Because of this I cannot use system restore

(System restore is not also available in start > accessories > system tools)

I also found out that rstrui.exe is missing from my System32 folder. Upon searching this forums, I found a link that gives this file. So i DLed it and pasted it in the System32 folder. But when i click it it says that srcore.dll was not found.

help?

I'm using Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Oh and i've also tried using the vista dvd to boot the computer and use system restore from the dvd. but when i click it it says "the computer is running on a limited diagnostic state. if you try system restore you may not be able to undo the changes" or something like that. It still won't allow me to do the restore.

Thanks in advance :)

Start System Restore from a command prompt

You can start System Restore from a command prompt window if you can't start your computer in any mode other than safe mode with command prompt.

  1. Start your computer in safe mode with command prompt. For more information, see Start your computer in safe mode.
  2. At the command prompt, type rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Thanks for your time pccarehimanshu. I've tried your solution and it says "rstrui.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." My pc sucks :(
