Solved Problem with 32bit and 64bit

Hi im kinda new so ill need all the help i can get. in march i think my friend gave me a laptop. Sony Vaio. 1gb Ram all that.... x64... recently it crashed and i ran the recovery partition... now for some reason my laptop has gone from x64 to 32bit. yes it is 64bit capable but i dont have any installation cds with x64 on them... i was wondering if there was a way to change without a fresh installation with cds or recovery partiton (now deleted)

Hello Nostaw, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I would that the 64-bit Vista was not the original OS installed, and that the 32-bit Vista is what was included with the computer originally on the recovery partition.

Unfortunately, you can only do a clean install when going from the 32-bit to 64-bit Vista, or the other way around. Since you have deleted the CD and recovery partition, you will now have no way of reinstalling the 32-bit Vista via a factory restore from them. Unless you have another Vista installation disc with a valid product key number for it you are out of luck and will need to purchase a new copy. If it comes down to that, you might consider Windows 7 instead.
