Vista freezing shortly after startup

I recently bought a brand new laptop (Toshiba Dynabook, part of the Satellite series) with Vista Home Premium (updated with service pack 2) installed on it. It had been working fine since I purchased it a month ago, however two days ago it began freezing. It would freeze but audio and video application would still run. Everything would freeze and I'd have to do a hard reboot. If started again it will run from 2 to 10 minutes before this happens again. It will run error free in safe mode, however I cannot connect to the internet while in safe mode. I have tried running it without internet, only battery, no battery, running no programs, etc. but all produce the same effect.

I have read of similar problems on the net and tried all that was suggested within them. I tried clearly out the start up of all unnecessary programs, repairing the registry, running antivirus software (AVG and Norton) which found no viruses, turning off ReadyBoot, system restore, and updating all the drivers. It is now running slightly longer before freezing now, but it has not stopped the freezing.

I desperately need my computer for work. I can't loose any of the data on it. Is taking it back to the store my only option? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cambert, do you have AVG & Norton both installed on your system at the same time? Two antivirus can clash & create problems. One of my daughters did this and had AVG & mccaffe AV as well as windows firewall & Mccaffe firewall I removed Mccaffe and all her problems were gone, I apologise if this is a silly question but it eliminates the first possible cause

Try removing all of you antivirus programs and test to see what happens. If it turns out fine then like what Cambert said...it may be causing a conflict on scanning. Run scandisk if this doesnt work(even it does you should anyway)...you may have some corrupted files due to the hard reboots.

If none of these work...do System Restore back to before this issues started to occur...this may also help.

Hope this helps.
