I have been having this complicating issue with my laptop. i have windows vista x64 bit home premium. i have determined that it is not my internet because games like counter strike source still lag very badly with my internet off (9 fps every minute). i have tried reducing the services and amount of processes running on my computer and it didn't help at all. do i just need to update vista? i recently have had this problem for a week or two and i cant figure it out.

i have a Hp Pavilion Dv7
amd turion x2
ATI Radion HD 3200
4 GB of RAM

I i recently have had this problem for a week or two and i cant figure it out.

When it lags, check taskmanger for any process that show a lot of CPU usage. Also check in Resource monitor for any heavy HDD usage.

Run some malware / A/V scans

If you have Automatic updates installed, it may actually be an update that is causing the issue.

Do you recall installing new apps etc in the last 2 weeks?

im not saying that it is but could possibly be....... i had a similar experience with a sidebar clock gadget back in the early days where it would lag every time the clock changed

The one only program that exceeds is one of the svchosts so i assume that is normal. i have ran malawarebytes to see i0f it was just a virus and it didnt help. i have gotten rid of the vista siderbar app because i thought it was pointless... I did just install new video drivers to see if it fixed it. it was uneffected just like i thought. do you think it could be with my networking devices?

Looks to me like it's some overheating issue. You should get it to some computer repair shop so that they remove the dust that accumulated in it.
