Hi, i'm trying to change the Start Menu icon on my Vista 32-bit. I have looked EVERYWHERE and the only way it appears to be possible is by downloading a program caled ResHack. I did, but all the tutorials are saying to open the explorer.exe file and either look for a 6801.bmp file, which I don't have (looks like it's only on Windows 7), or to look for a "String Table" folder which I don't have either.
I added a screenshot of the folders I get when I open explorer.exe in ResHack. PLEASE tell me if I have some kind of fake Vista version (which is weird because it was already installed when I bought the computer from the store) or what is going on???
You say that Vista was already installed on your machine but you don't tell us anything about it, what make and model or anything like that.
I don't know anything about this program you call ResHack but to me anything with the name hack in it sounds suspicious.
I could be wrong about it but it would help the experts give you advice if you could fill in your system specs so they know just what sort of machine they are dealing with.
I have an HP model a6010.is,
AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3800+ 2.40 GHz
4.00 GB RAM Memory
32-bit Windows Vista Home Basic
Service Pack 1
Please let me know if you need any additional information..
And by the way, I am also always careful with programs with "hack" in them, but this one seems safe and also the only way to do what I am trying to do.. thanks
I do have a lincense key. Basically everything works perfectly and I have this version for almost three years now, but I can see no reason why I wouldn't have those folders in my explorer.exe file and this is the first time i'm prompted to doubt the authenticity of my product.. Is there another place where information about the Start Button logo would be stored? Or is it possible that for whatever reason my Vista or PC do not have this information at all?
