System Event Notification Service Logon failure

My laptop using Vista Home Premium as developed a fault which means I cannot logon to the internet through my wireless connection. It takes minutes to boot up and comes up with an error message "failed to connect to a windows service. windows could not connect to system event notification service etc". I have researched this on the net and after trying several fixes including "restore", "deleting the latest windows updates" and "uninstalling HP printer software" all to no avail. Can anyone out there offer other solutions?

Hello rellarby,
Have you installed/un-installed any hardware/software lately ?, this will sometimes cause your system to do odd things.
The first thing i would try is a system restore, to a point before you had this problem.

Give it a try and post your results, good luck.

Thanks Stoneys-nutz, I had already tried restore without success. I have now resolved the problem. For others who may have this the solution is as follows;
1) Click on Start button
2)Type Cmd in the Start Search Text Box
3) Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as administrator. Allow elevation request.
4) Type netsh winsock reset in the command prompt shell, and then press enter key
5) Restart your computer
I obtained this solution from My Digital Life website and it worked, all is back to normal.
The only other thing I did was change windows update from "automatic" to notifying only. This is because most forums were telling me that whenever they had the problem it was linked back to an automatic update.
