Solved copy and paste gone on right click

I can't right click to copy and paste, though I can still do so through Edit.A reboot temporarily solved the problem so I am assuming it is a vista problem, like my frequently disappearing system icons!
Any suggestions?

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to fix it for you. As an alternative method, you can use the tutorial below to add "Copy to Folder" and "Move to Folder" to thew context menu.

Sorry if I've wasted your time on this, but I suspect the loss of copy and paste with a right click was due to a windows update.I had to do a system restore to deal with a different issue, and took it back to the date of the last update, as something clicked in my (slow) mind. Hey Presto! All back to normal, at least until the next update.I had something else (that escapes me) disappear from the context menu a year or so ago, and it took a few updates (and system restores) before it got back to normal.Apologies again, maybe I should keep a log of all my problems?

My theory that it must be due to a windows update appears to be correct (is this sort of thing common?), as I lost it again and did a system restore to prior yesterday's update, which restored my right click function.I am aware that I may be missing out on an important part of the update by doing this- is there any way to find out what's causing it, and just remove that update? I have a feeling last time I had a windows update problem it (they) sorted itself out in a couple of weeks.

Until your ready to do a clean install of Vista to see if that can clear this up for good, you might consider just hiding the Windows Update for now. You might also set your Windows Update to not install automatically and to let you know instead. This way you can pick and choose which ones you want to install to help narrow down which one it is if it happens again after installing it.

Thanks for that, I've learnt something about updates.Unfortunately I think the update that seems to trigger it is deemed important- security/spyware related, so I'm loathe to hide it. I really don't understand how security updates affect context menus but...A while back my fn keys stopped working, or assumed different functions, and this was related to updates.A fortnight later the problem was gone, never to return- I hope.

Now my laptop wakes out of hibernation seconds after powering off, I've tried disabling cordless mouse etc, as suggested in your tutorial, but am convinced it must be part of a bigger problem.I am plucking up courage to do a clean install of vista, and started by running my Toshiba recovery disc creator, only to encounter another problem:


The dvd's are brand new, and work on my wife's laptop, so I've no idea.Can you install from the recovery partition? I'm really showing my ignorance here, which is why I'm shying away from attempting this.I just want to have my laptop back with all its programmes and settings unchanged, and without these problems- just like everyone else I suppose!
