Keep losing windows desktop background

Hi, when i shut down my pc for the night and start it the next morning my desktop wallpaper is missing and the font is like a washed out text,I get it back to normal by doing a system restore to an earlier date,but it just keeps happening,can anybody please advise to the problem and how to resolve it. i have windows vista premium 32-bit. thank you.
