MSCOMCTL.OCX not correctly registered

I have Vista Home Premium.

When trying to install "Duplicate Cleaner" as Administrator, I get the message:

Code:
Run-time error '339':

Component MSCOMCTL.OCX not correctly registered.
Any advice?

Hello OldGrantonian,

Click on the "Start" menu (the Windows logo normally located on the
bottom left of your computer.

Go to "All programs/Accessories" then right-click on "Command Prompt" and
choose "Run as administrator" from the menu.

After acknowledging the User Account Control warning, type the following
command:
regsvr32 C:\windows\ system32\mscomctl.ocx

This is one of many fixes i have seen for this error, try it and post your results. Good luck.

I followed the instructions, running the command prompt as an administrator.

I got the message:

DllRegisterServer in c:\windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx succeeded

I tried again to install Duplicate Cleaner from its MSI file. I got the same error as in the OP :(

You could try re-installing the MSCOMCTL.OCX file, see if that helps, yours may be corrupt, if you do re-install, run the "Command Prompt" again.

Download MSCOMCTL.OCX file free : GiveMeFile.Net

Tried your suggestion. Same result :(

However, here's some more info.

I'm trying to run "Duplicate Cleaner", an excellent free program that searches for duplicate files.

With any program that moves or deletes files, I always "run as administrator".

However, I noticed that Duplicate Cleaner will start OK if I run as a normal user. (It probably won't delete certain files.)

Is that a clue?

When you start the Duplicate Cleaner, do you get the UAC prompt ?

When you start the Duplicate Cleaner, do you get the UAC prompt ?

Scenario A ("run as administrator"):

- The UAC dialog appears. Click "Allow"
- The MSCOMCTL error appears
- The program will not start

Scenario B (normal user):

- No UAC dialog
- The program launches immediately
- During operation, some duplicate files will not be deleted

The only fix i can find for this is the one i posted, the only thing i can think of is that its a problem in the registry, have you cleaned the registry lately ?.

CCleaner - Download
(backup registry when prompted)

If this does not fix it, maybe there is something on the makers site that will help.
