Windows Explorer: Seeing Files According to Date of Publication

I have many newspaper clippings in MY Documents. They are variously formatted (TXT, WORD, and PDF). Using Windows Explorer in Windows XP, I know exactly how to view these documents according to their date created or date modified. But how do I view these documents according to their date of publication? If I upgrade to VISTA, will I be able to do this?

1) There must be a way to attach "date of publication" as a property to TXT, Word, and PDF files.

2) There must be a way to view files chronologically in Windows Explorer - not according to their date of creation or modification but according to their date of publication.

Can someone please help?! Maybe someone writing a dissertation with lots of historical sources can feel my pain. I've been playing with MS Word Properties, and trying to create custom attributes but so far I still haven't been able to figure out how to a) correctly format a new attribute for Date of Publication or b) search for that customized attribute in Windows Explorer.

In short, I want to see all of my files in the order that they were published so that I can have a "timeline of events" based on saved newspaper clippings.

Hello Rabindra,

Welcome to vista forums!!!!!

Yes, you should be able to see your files in order of date of publication. Once you find all the files, you can right click on the taskbar in windows explorer and choose to view that date of publication. If you want to edit these, double click on the date and change it...

Im 99% sure this works. I will look around online a little more.

Hope this helps,
Ben

Hi Ben,
Much thanks for replying!

I am afraid that I didn't follow your advice?

1) Which taskbar do you mean? Where exactly should I right-click? Above all my files under a Detailed View of a Folder? Because although there are many attributes listed there to choose from (like Year, Date Created, etc), there is not an attribute for Date of Publication.

2) I assume that I would have to assign a new attribute in my documents. Since the Date of Publication is not automatically a piece of meta data in my documents, it seems like there should be a way of inputting that information. But I can't figure out exactly how to do that...or if I can that for all types of documents including TXT and PDF.

Much thanks for any insights you may have!!
