HP laptop slow startup problem

i have an HP laptop n i am having slow startup problem. laptop's specs are: AMD Turion X2 processor, 3GB of ram, 250bg hard disk, nvidia integrated graphics, vista home premium 32bit SP2, 17inch display. the model is dv9910us.
lately it takes a lot of time to boot.....sometime it hangs up in the starting hp boot screen for about 2-3 minutes. sometimes it hangs after the initial boot and before the windows startup. sometimes it hangs after startup. and lastly it always hangs up for 2 minutes(not exact to the seconds) after i login into any user account. i am also having problems wid my DVD drive....it doesnt show up in explorer most of d time! i tried deleting the upper and lower filter entries for d drive frm registry n it worked fine for couple of boots but its giving problems again.
the whole startup process takes 20-25 minutes sometimes.....i have already removed unwanted entries frm startup, cleaned up registry, defragmented drives, scanned for viruses and so on!! i am a computer engineering student and i have done everything in my knowledge but still the problem persists....so guys HELP!!!!

The chances are its a driver hanging up, or some third party software, so i would clear out any old drivers, and update all the ones that are left, Video, sound, chipset, and any third party drivers you may have.
What anti-virus do you use ?, check that it has not started scanning your boot sector on startup.
Also, check in the event viewer, see if there are any clues there.

^^ thanks for the suggestion.....i have already tried using that sfc command and it showed nothing!! i have also updated my drivers and BIOS but still no improvements!! in one of the sites i found through google, it was suggested to disable the server service frm services.msc......i did that too but still its slow....it takes average of 7 minutes to load up fully......5 mins at minimum and 25 mins at maximum.
I used to have Avira antivirus.....i uninstalled that too but even that didnt improve anything!!
so m still stuck with the long boot time

Does this machine only have slow boot-up times and nothing else? As in, does it run well --fast -- once its up and running or is it still slow?

Can you go to the start search -> type: msconfig -> hit enter -> accept the UAC -> then at the top browse to start-up and post a screenshot please.

To take a screenshot:
start search -> snipping tool -> should see a pair of scissors and a red circle -> press enter and choose the msconfig window -> save it to your desktop and post it here by pressing the little paper clip next the text color selector.

the system runs well and fast after all the startup is completed.......it not only hangs during boot up but it also hangs every time after i login into any user accounts for around 2 mins.....i used to think it was because Avira scanned the system after startup.....but it happens even after i have uninstalled the antivirus
currently i have only three programs in my startup in msconfig.....they are windows defender, synaptics pointing device driver and windows operating system. thats all....there is an extra entry for vidalia but i have disabled it so it doesnt start at the startup.
other than that.....i used to use a program called startup delayer to start different startup programs individually at certain gaps of time.....i suspected it was causing the slow bootup so uninstalled it but it still hangs up!!

The first thing you need to do, is to create a system restore point.

Run HJ again and put a tick in the box next to these items, get HJ to fix them.

You need to disable this add-on from running. There is a memory meter that can sometimes cause slow startup. I would disable the sidebar for now.

You could try and disable your Blue Tooth device, just to see if it has an impact on your startup.

There was nothing in your HJ log that would stand out as an obvious problem, so it is a try it and see situation, not ideal, but thats all we have.
Carry out the above, and post a new log with your results, good luck.

i did as u instructed.....hijackThis showed error saying that it cound fix those winsock entries and suggested some softwares to remove them.

i also downloaded the softwares you had linked......malwarebyte's showed one malware entry in registry and fixed it......the housecall didnt work.....it starts updating everytime i start it and gets stuck up in around 72% so m still trying to make it work!

Odd that Trend Micro wont load, what anti-virus program are you using at the moment ?.
Is there any improvement in the startup ?.

i have no ant-virus installed right now......i used to have avira but i uninstalled in suspicion of it slowing the startup!!

there is still no big improvements in the startup....the fastest start time i had till now is 4 minutes and thats a lot when considering it used to b under 1 minutes before!!

Try re-installing an anti-virus program and doing a full scan scan.
Also, you could try booting into safe mode and see if it sticks on a driver for a long time.
