Hi to everyone here. I'm new to the Forum, and I am technologically challenged, so please be patient with me....
Background: After my Dell laptop stopped working last year, Dell finally (it took 3 months and numerous phone calls and visits from a tech) replaced my computer with an Inspiron 1520.
Problem: Ever since I received my new (refurbished) laptop, I have had the message of "insufficient storage available. cannot backup files."
Further, my computer has always run slower than any other computer I have used. I get the message "low disc space..running out of disc space" often. (Dell has been no help whatsoever, and at this point, I am out of warranty.)
To try to resolve my problem I have compressed the drive 'to save space' which gave me 231 mb of space. Certainly not enough to run any backups.
I have defragmented and get the message that it does not have to be defragmented at this time.
My computer takes quite a log time to get going (probably an unrelated issue, but certainly a problem), so I have visited the install/uninstall section and have uninstalled those few things that I feel are safe to uninstall, but that doesn't help.
I've tried to back up onto discs, but it doesn't allow me to do so.
I called Tiger Direct and they sold me more memory. I installed it, but have found that I have (and had) plenty of room in Drive C. Thanks Tiger Direct!
A friend of mine suggested I buy an external hard drive and just disable the message I get. A good suggestion, I believe.
That of course will not resolve my problem with the speed of my computer. I regularly clear my temporary files and the only thing that comes up when I try to speed up the computer is to empty my recycle bin, which is empty and clear.
So I have a two fold problem....Recovery Drive D and the speed of the computer.
Any suggestions of what else I can possibly try?
Oh, and get this...the refurb laptop from Dell had files from the previous owner on it including favorites and iTunes, and who knows what else. I believe I have eliminated all that information.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and advice.
