I have no experience with Amilo, however if this prob occurs on a Laptop I would boot to the Bios and run a Hard disk Diag. This will tell you if the hard drive is OK or not! If not is the case usually a #7 will appear in the message.
To boot to the Bios, look at the screen at boot. It will indicate which key(s) to press. Reboot and press the key(s). When the Bios screen appears look for Hard disk diag, or something similiar. Run the diag.
If the drive is Ok then you have lost the Boot file( in the old DOS days of computing it was called the Sys files) and they need to be reinstalled. Normally the Windows Cd will offer this via the repair option. You have indicated this is not happening.
Again in my case I would use a Linux Live cd and use Gpart to pick up the disk and work from there. Good luck!
