Solved choosing default programme

My laptop (running home premium) came with Works word processor installed, and Word as a teaser, which drives me mad.I have therefore downloaded open office, and am in the process of deciding if I should uninstall the windows works programme. As a result my documents are still opened,by default, with Works, but when I try to select OO.org from my list of programmes I have an endless choice of files to open.

How can I select OO to open these docs by default, and will it automatically open my documents once I've uninstalled Works?

Thanks Roy, I've bookmarked that for future reference.I didn't know it was the programe's .exe I needed.I still don't understand why Windows Works and Word were listed as options, but it wasn't sufficient just to select Open Office as the programme, and I had to find swriter.exe.Oh well, mine is not to reason why, though I get the feeling if I knew how computers worked I would get on a bit better!

Dont worry, I have been working with computers for a long time. As you get on doing more with them you will find you will pick it up quite quickly.

There are alot of resources on the net if you need to take computer courses or just reading lessons/articles on the web.
