Explorer/RunDLL32 crashes

Hello all,

Recently I have noticed explorer has been crashing, coming up with a couple of errors (or just 1) saying Explorer has crashed and/or rundll32 has crashed. This is normally when I want to copy videos (MPEG/T.S.) to another location or right click video files.

Can't remember when it started happening so can't do System Restore on it, tried killing some 3rd party shell extensions (on the right click menu) and that didn't work either.

Is this something like a codec issue?

Hello leighlast,

Welcome to Vista Forums! :D

I think your computer might be locking up because of your CPU/memory usage is going to high.

You should check these using the process tab in the task manager before doing it and let us know.
Then, have the task manager still up and do the transfer. Let us know what your CPU/memory usage goes up to. It may be crashing because of an overload. Runddl32 is such a key .dll that there could a TON of issues with it and it could ahve a lot of problems but we cant tell. It tricky.

Let us know,
Ben

It may be that your mpeg codec has become corrupt.
Try re-installing it to see if this helps.
