Vista Ultimate 64 Bit - Some Videos Not Playable

On my Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine - SP 2 and Internet Explorer 8 - videos from two sites will not play. The video screen displays, but the video does not load and play. The two sites: "Wall Street Journal Online" and "MSNBC Meet The Press". They are not worked since I begain using the machine. They worked ok on the XP 32 bit machine that was replaced. Videos from other sites play ok.

I've sent help requests to both places - no response at all from Meet The Press - pro-forma "thank you and we will be touch" from Wall Street Journal on October 28, 2009, and no response to a follow-up "what is the status" e-mail I sent December 14, 2009

Hence, this post. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the cause may be? (I don't know if either sites uses it, butAdobe Flash is installed in the X86 sarea and works on other pop-ups and videos. )
Thanks

are you using the 64-bit ie8? if so, don't--use the 32-bit ie8 as there is no flash player for 64-bit browsers yet.

i suggest to open ie as admin, go to the site(s) and try to open a video and wait a min or two... i'm thinking that maybe the site has a player plug-in to the browser that might need admin privileges to install.

ran into something "similar" to that before--on a user account i had set up for my daughter, she was trying to play some games at nick.com and the games wouldn't play at all. the site was trying to install a player for the games, but wouldn't install because she wasn't the admin. i had run the browser with admin privileges (inputting my password obviously) and the player installed, and she was happy to play some games.

Thank you. I would never have thought of trying that. Just tried it, but didn' make any difference. I have a 6 or 7 year old XP 32 machine IE 8 that the vidoes play on ok, so it must be related to the Vista 64 bit environment somehow. Its odd how a piece of software works fine for 999 users, and then the 1,000th has a problem. Guess I'm the 1,000th.
