Ownership and permissions on everything

Hi all,

Is there a way that I can take ownership and have complete permissions on each and every folder and file on my pc. I'm the only user and not being able to move or delete certain files is a pain in the ass.

thanks

Hello Sixoclick, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Yes, you can use the built-in Adminstrator account for almost full control. Vista will still not let you mess with the protected operating system files though.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi, thanks for the reply.

The account I now use is an administrator account and I have UAC turned off, can't stand those constant intrusions. With UAC out of the picture should I still be limited on some folders and files? I'll try what you suggested and let you know how it goes.

quote message in reply checkbox doesn't seem to be working, is that because I'm using Firefox?

If you want ownership of the entire file system:

Open an elevated command prompt by right clicking the icon and choosing Run as Admin > type takeown -f C:\

Hit enter > this process will take awhile from there. Once it is finished your user account will own all of the files...

Thanks so much CrucialHoax and pacinitaly. I have been looking through many multiple steps, long, drawn out suggestions to do this same function. And yours is short and to the point! Rep + to you both!

A bit late to the discussion, but the reason it took just a short while was that the command was missing the '/r' parameter after the C:\ (it should read " takeown /f C:\ /r" (don't include the quotes) ), otherwise you are only taking ownership of the root of drive C: and not all of the sub-directories. With the /r in place it does take a loooong time!
