trying to initialize hdd sata drive

i have tried everything said in this thread & i still cant initialize the HDD !!!!

i get this error:- This request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Can someone please help me, as i really need to get access to my drive as it has important files i really need

Try another SATA data cable...
Obviuosly connect it with all power to the machine removed.
Does this machine already have a SATA HDD in it ? ?

And is the drive being seen in the BIOS ? ?

the sata cable is brand new & yes i have my primary HDD in pc already & it is SATA, i am sure it is shown in bios aswell

Initializing the drive sets it up for formatting - it wipes out all the old MBR and Boot sector info.

If you're unable to see the drive, something has gone wrong with it (or the stuff associated with it). Don't do anything with the drive unless you're trying to recover stuff. Each access of the drive increases the chance that you won't be able to recover anything.

Start by testing the drive to see if it has died using this free testing process: HD Diagnostic

Post back and we'll move on from there.

the type of drive i have is not listed on seagate, its a maxtor basics 500GB
