The computer restarted unexpectedly or has encountered an unexpected error.

Hello people,
After I haven’t used my PC(vista) for two weeks I started it and anything looked normal but when the vista green background appears(where you normally choose the user) suddenly this error pops up:

“The computer restarted unexpectedly or has encountered an unexpected error. Windows
installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click OK to restart your
computer and then restart installation.”

The only thing I can do is press Ok, if I do so my computer restarts and the same error appears.

Some things I can and can’t do:
I can’t reach my desktop.
I can’t choose my user.
I can enter a second screen my pressing F12 or tab.
I can insert a CD/DVD.

Do anyone knows how I can solve this problem? Please replay.

Can you get into Safe Mode? To do this, rapidly tap the F8 key just before the Windows Splash Screen shows up.

Please let us know the exact make and model of your system

My Computer

No, I can't enter Safe Mode. If I enter Safe Mode I get the likely same error:
Windows cannot complete installation in Safe mode. To continue installing Windows, restart the computer.
And if I do so it won’t work as well, I get the same error
what do you mean by the exact model of my system

Thnx for your fast reply

Who manufactured your computer? What is the model number (from that manufacturer).
If it's a custom build (not from a major manufacturer) we'll need the manufacturer and model number of your motherboard.

there is s file with the serial number of my PC.

And what did i need to do with the program?

Anyone here know how to access System Repair/System Restore on one of these systems? Does it come with a copy of the OS installation DVD that you can boot from?

My Computer

Have you considered just installing Windows? Or if you have a vista disk handy or can borrow one from a friend, you can go into the system restore from the disk.

You just need an ordinary Vista install disk that is the same type as installed. (Ex. if your computer has Vista Home Premium 32bit you need a Vista Home Premium 32bit disk.) To preform System Restore: 1.) Insert your Vista disk. 2.) Select your DVD drive as your first boot device. 3.) Once the Vista install screen comes up, choose "Repair my computer" located under "Install Now". 4.) It will try to repair your computer automatically. If it can't choose "System Restore" and choose a restore point from when it was working.

If you have an OEM copy (most likely) then you'll need a similar OEM copy to install with. If you use a Retail copy, you won't be able to activate it with your OEM product key.

Xiffix doesn't need to install Windows. Xiffix CAN use a retail copy to just RESTORE Windows. Any copy of Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit OEM or Retail will work just fine.

there are two problems about that, i dont have a CD. And i dont know how to boot from CD.

i've tried this, but it did not work, that was cuz i the CD bad, or i dont know how.

what is OEM?

My Computer

OEM is simply non-retail packaging. You will need a CD. Can you borrow one from someone? If not, it's possible you might be able to download one. Just google: Vista Restore Disk Download.

Hi Xiffix,
Were you able to find a solution to this problem?
I have encountered the same problem with my HP 520 laptop pre-installed with Vista Business 32bit.
I tried booting with a Linux Live CD to back up the data, but strangely the folder with my username (under Users) is not present. Have I lost my data ?
Any help is much appreciated.
