Excessive login time. Does not hibernate

I have a Dell Latitude D830 with Vista

My computer works fine as long as it is booted up and I have logged in to my profile.

The problem appears to be that it does not hibernate properly and takes about 5 minutes to log in to my profile. It boots up normally.

Hibernate:
It starts to hibernate, but appears to hang up and never shuts the drives or power off. After several minutes, I end up having to hold the power button until it shuts down. This results in an improper shutdown.

Excessive login time to my profile:
The computer boots up without a problem. When I login, however, it may take 5 minutes to complete the login. I am sure there is some “stay resident” program that must be causing this problem.

My questions on the hibernation problem are:

1. Can I view a log of the hibernation sequence to see what may be preventing the hibernation to complete?
2. Do you have a written procedure to track down this problem?
3. Is there a log that the computer creates that may shed some light on this?

My questions on the long login problem are:

1. Can the gadget sidebar have anything to do with the excessive login time?
2. Is there any way I can view the steps of the login process to see what is causing the long delay?
3. Do you have any written procedure that I can use to debug this problem?

Do you have any other OS dualbooted with Vista, because when I dualbooted Linux, that happened to me.

No. It is a simple, single operating system as it comes from the factory. The only unusual thing I can say is that I have a LOT of programs installed for both my business and personal needs. Things like Quickbooks, Visio, Excel, Word, Norton, an automatic screen print program, a print to PDF printer driver, my Brother scan and print program, my ShadowProtect backup program and probably 20 other programs. All these programs tend to want to "call back to Momma". I am sick of all the resident programs that want to do that.

Yes, but I don't think it should affect Startup. How much ram do you have? Also...
DO THIS:

Click Start and type in cmd
When cmd comes up in the list, right click it and run as administrator
type sfc /scannow

It might help.
After it scans (could take an hour) restart computer.

It basically scans all the critical/crucial system files (shell32.dll, winload.exe, explorer.exe, hal.dll, run32.dll... etc.) and it repairs them as best as possible. sfc /scannow has saved my computer many times and is one of the first things I run when something goes wrong.

I ran the scan. I got this response when it ended:

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Here is some of the information from that file. I searched for the word "fail". It does not mean anything to me. What about you?

My Computer

How do I login as administrator? I am the only user of this laptop. When I tried your solution it wouldn't let me do the scan (sfc /scannow).

My Computer

@montandon1: Oh when you type CMD in start menu DON'T CLICK ON IT. Instead, right-click it and in the menu click RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR...

@eganders: It mention quite a few lines about your wireless. Just to tell you, it seems like the hibernation issue has nothing to do with the excessive login time. Do this to see if it solves the hibernation:

Click Start and type: devmgmt.msc
Click "Continue" when the administrator prompt comes up
When Device Manager opens up, expand "Network Adapters" and then right click your wireless card/NIC. In Options (or something like that) Tab, make sure "Wake on Lan" is unchecked. Also, do the same for your ethernet adapter and any other network cards.
