I erased my D drive (Recovery Drive)

I was screwing around and formatted my D drive long story short. This was my factory partitioned recovery drive. How do I make it a Recovery drive again? Or have I turned it into a lump of 10GB extra storage permanently? I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit. Please advise.

You are in trouble. To get it back you must perform a factory restore- which means losing all your files and you would need a recovery disk. Would upload the files from my old D:\ recovery drive, but it is UNIQUE for each computer.

Sorry buddy.

Actually, you MAY be able to. Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 has the ability to recover lost or formatted partitions. It also allows you to boot from the Acronis CD,once installed.
Good luck:)

:confused:Doh! I was so tired of seeing the failed backup message. Why did I not just grab one of a dozen DVDs, or ext flash drives and manually backup. Why oh why did the "Last backup failed" prompt annoy me so much I formatted the D drive? ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Hi

Were you backing up to D: drive? If yes, that is why your back up failed, D: is for FACTORY RECOVERY ONLY.

If you call the PC maker, may be send you recovery DVD's (may be a fee).

Formatted , or Deleted?

This is free and the Partition Recovery is excellent :

Did you recover it yet with Partition Wizard?

It only takes a minute.

I suggest you take action soon. If you keep writing to your hard drive (for example, typing right now uses virtual memory which is saved to your hard drive temporarily), then your 10GB data might be overwritten.

@SIW: I don't really believe in data recovery, let alone partition recovery, so I didn't recommend it.

I have recovered partitions fully intact and working perfectly too many times to count.

There are some great apps. that will do it. Paragon includes a partition undelete in many of their products ( much improved in the 10 series).

The partition recovery in the Free Partition Wizard is astonishingly good - ( tho. it only supports FAT and NTFS).

Test disk is also excellent.

How do you mean you don't believe in it - the same way you don't believe in Father Christmas? LOL.

LOL Amazingly, I have had success with recovery many times as well. And a few failures, too. The point is, as ComputerAge suggested, you are wasting valuable time, and your more than likely headed toward losing all your data anyway.Doesn't sound like you have much to lose by attemptimg a recovery.

HEY! I believe in Father Christmas... LOL, just kidding.

Anyway, back to topic. I have tried to recovery partitions before but to no avail. I have even tried to recover a SINGLE text file, but still, it didn't work. I learned the hard way, now I backup every 2 months (sometimes monthly).
