Can't put icons in the taskbar

Hello everyone,
I was arranging my icons on my taskbar and deleted them. I thought no big problem, I'll just drag them back from my desktop. I have the taskbar unlocked, and when I click on the handle to drag it to the right to make room for the icons it doesn't move. In the taskbar start menu, the quick launch doesn't stay checked. When I right click on the taskbar>tools> quick launch, I can't check the quick launch. I'm not having any issues. I did a system restore to no avail. That seldom works for anyone, but it seems we always do it. Obviously, I must have done something wrong, because when I deleted them, I deleted them all at once. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

ps. The icons I want are in the quick launch file.

Hello Gil, and welcome to Vista Forums.

When you right click on the taskbar and select Toolbars, are all of the tollbar options grayed out? If so, then this may help to enable them again so that you can check "Quick Launch".

Thanks for replying. All the toolbar options are there and I can check all of them except quick launch. Also in the taskbar start menu properties, quick launch wont stay checked.

I think both handles are on top of one another. How do you separate them?

From playing with it for a bit, it isn't possible to put one on top of another. When trying to recreate what you are saying(dragging one handle over the other) it shoots my quick launch bar over to the right end of the taskbar.

Then it's just a matter of dragging it back over to the right spot,and dragginf the otehr handle back where it's supposed to be. But, from what i'm seeing, if quick launch is disabled, then there's only one handle anyway. So, if you only see on handle one the taskbar, then we gotta figure out how to get your quick launch back first. you don't see a handle way over on the other end of your task bar when it's unlocked, do you?

No, there is only one handle right next to the start button. I thank you for your help with this problem.
