Recently often the following messages appear when start up is attempted:

- No boothable device
- Hard disk not exist
- Insert boot disk & press any key

I can only start up the computer after pressing ctrl, alt, delete
sometimes this needs to be done twice and then the computer starts normally

Before trying anything always make a System Restore point.

Go To to an administrtors account Type cmd in search

In cmd type
fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0

If that does not work, again in cmd type sfc /scannow. This should fix small corruption. The firs advice shoud fix boot.

hello

It sounds like (maybe) your boot order got switched around?

lets check to make sure:, hit the power button, when you see the mfgr splash screen(acer, gateway, dell, whatever you have) start tapping the f2 key until you enter the BIOS screen..

now you will need to use your arrow keys to navagate to the "boot" tab,

once there have a look at the boot order. hdd should be the 1st in the order to boot... after that it don't really matter..

if hdd is not #1 use the up and down arrow keys to highlight the hdd (once its highlighted) use the f5 or f6 keys to move it up to the top.

once its on top hit the f10 to save and exit. (you may have to press y for yes and enter)

If the hdd is already #1. I just did all this typing for nothing lol...(but you have eliminated that as a problem)

regardless you will have to use the f10 to save changes and exit (even if you don't change anything).....good luck

***EDIT**** sorry richc46 i'm a slow typer lol... follow richc46's advice if that don't do it check your boot order!!

The command writes a new MBR to the disk in question. So it will be in the correct order.

No problem with our posting at the same time.
