How did you get Vista? Did it come preinstalled on your computer?

Did you do a clean install?

Did you do an upgrade?

If you did an upgrade, you did not have to reinatall all of your programs.

@grannyshairnet,

I had that problem also, but it was limited to when I tried to print a .doc or .docx., it would still print a rich text doc from desktop notepad or test page. I found that it was from some 3rd party apps installed. What I do now is when I install an app, is go call up a Word 2007 document and use print function that allows me to select printer. If that window opens then I know all is good and hit cancel. If it won't open then I uninstall program, reboot and check again to verify if it was in fact that particular program that caused the not responding problem. Have had to uninstall 3 add on programs so far. Took me the longest time and many trials and tribulations to figure this out. There are apparantly other factors that can cause this problem also but this is what caused mine.

Hello grannyshairnet,
Install and run these free apps.

Malwarebytes.org

CCleaner - Download "make sure you don't let it install Yahoo toolbar"

Run Malwarebytes, then run CCleaner. (Backup Registry When Prompted).

After you have done that follow this tutorial.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

When you have done that go to > Start > Run > in the box type "msconfig" (no quotes), press OK and again at the UAC.
Now go to Startup and see what programs are running, you can disable any that are not needed by Vista. (any program can be started manually when needed).

After you have done all this you will know that your file system is in good order and that there is no malware in your system.
Good luck and post your results.

My Computer

You appear to have some corruption in some of your system files.
Reboot into the bios and set the boot order to boot from DVD/CD first.
Insert Vista disk and reboot, use the repair option on the DVD/CD to try and repair the files.
