Vista Complete Backup

Hi all,

I always use vista complete backup (Disk Image) to backup both my hard disks, but I am a bit confused as to the restore options. Basically, I have a sneaky suspition that one of the drives is going to fail in the near future, so I backup quite regularly, but when I replace it, I want to get a bigger drive, as it's only a 150gig raptor, and I really would prefer a 500 or 1TB 7200rpm drive for storage. Can vista restore the files I backed up on D: (the 150gig) to a new D: which would be a large disk ? If it can, could I also do the same for C: which is where vista is located ?

If that doesn't work, could anyone suggest a way I could do that ? As I do need more storage/main disk space now.

Any advice is appreciated :)

I did look and install the free Paragon backup and recovery program you showed me, but I have not used it yet. I cannot find anything regarding backing up and restoring from one size of disk drive to a larger size. I thought i'd ask Paragon themselves, I waited until now to get an answer from them to the wrong question, so I am not 100% filled with confidence.

Where does it mention that I can make backups and restore to different sized drives ?

I don't use Vista complete pc backup.

However, there are several free apps. that will do exactly what you want:

Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 Free Edition

Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

I use Paragon, do not know about Macrium, and it is really good. Look into it.
Hey Rich,
Just downloaded free Paragon Backup and Recovery. Did backup to My Books EH and got saw this message.
When going to My Books EH and clicking on a specific file, in fact all files, it goes to Windows Cannot open this file and gives me two choices to use the web to find program to open or use a program listed on my computer to find the correct program to open it.
If I go to restore, if I ever need to, will it restore to the original programs or to an arc or pbf file?
What is your recommendation?
I have previously down a backup from Vista Home Premium tp My Books EH and don't have any problem opening and viewing these back up files. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for getting me this far.....just a few more posts and I will be there!

If you use Seagate, they have a free download tool called disc wizard. You can image from one drive to a larger drive correctly. Have never tried on any thing other than Seagate.

Downloads: Hard Drive Installation & Computer/PC Diagnostic Software | Seagate

if you want to use the seagate program, when it says to buy product just ---- hold " alt " then type the letter " T " then " O " = technical over ride

i use it ever 5-6 weeks to clone my laptop/tower drives.
