can't delete files system hangs

Hi Guys,
I think this is now getting a common problem but microsoft havn't solved it (unless you know different?) I cannot change, rename or delete folders and now the recycle bin won't empty! (The recycle bin issue is more recent) Explorer hangs when i try to alter or add new folders. I have to use Ctrl, Alt and delete to re-boot explorer and cancel the operation. Once this is done you notice the file has been re-named and or the folder deleted but this is only after the "explorer hanging" has been cleared.

It is a nightmare because I move and add files constantly. I have tried numerous fixes most from this forum but to no avail. Any help would be apprecated.

Thanks

hello
have you tried: shift + delete (it bypasses the recycle bin) as for renaming folders iv'e never experienced any problems, is it a permissions issue?....good luck

Hi Kenny,

The renaming of files causes windows explorer to freeze, and it is only laterly the recycle bin has been playing up and not emptying. It is not permission issues because the laptop has been fine for 18 months prior to this. I cannot put my finger on the cure?

Try this. Go to search type in CMD
Do not hit enter.

Right click on CMD and chose run as administrator

In cmd type this sfc /scannow. If your problem is caused by file corruption this should remedy the situation.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply, I tried it sfc/scannow via CMD and it couldn't repair some files? It didn't cure the problem. I have the CBS log if you want to have a look at it? I ran sfc again but still no joy, i ran it in safe mode with the same result ...anything else I could possible try?

Hi Richard,

I think a clean install is the only option as well? Hey thanks for the help ...at least we tried! ...I off to back up everything, what a pain it is!

Wait, this is not a clean install it is an upgrade. You may be smart to back up, but in theory it is not necessary. Clean install may be in the future, ,but try this now. Select upgrade when given the choice, on the screen.

Read what I have sent, it indicates select upgrade. That just does the OS and (in theory) it leaves programs and doucments, alone.

But always wise to back up
