Windows Backup

Does windows backup utility backup system files? I can not use system restore because there is a virus buried in the restore files and windows will not let me use a restore point. I am using Norton 2010 and it gets rid of the file as it comes out of restore so my system is fine but windows will not restore because it finds the same virus. The problem is I deleted some files that controlled my cd/dvd drive and need to get them back but now I can not use the cd/dvd drive. All I have left is my external 5gb backup drive which I did a windows backup on, will this help me in any way?

I restarted my computer with the original cd and it did not boot up with that cd. Right now if I had to put my original operating system back onto my computer it would not work. I re-flashed the bios from HP.com and still no luck.....

Hello rodneydlux,
What files did you delete for your DVD/CD drive ?.
If it was just the drivers, go to device manager and un-install any drivers that are left, reboot and Windows will re-install the drivers.
Do you have a Vista DVD/CD ?, if you do, then go to your Bios when booting, go to boot order and set your DVD/CD as your first boot device, insert the vista DVD/CD and reboot, boot from disk and when you get to the options page choose repair.
Don't forget to reset boot order when finished.

If any of this works and all is well, delete all your restore points and set a new one, but only if you are happy that all is well.
