Monitor shuts off and controls fail.

When I get on my computer, whether it is starting up or has been on all day, the monitor just shuts off. When it shuts off it's as if the computer was told to shut the monitor off at a certain time.

This is different because when the monitor shuts off there is no control; clicking the mouse does nothing, inserting a use into the port do not make the access sound for usb, turning the monitor on and off does nothing and the monitor does not notify me of any signal issues.

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I have Norton which is scanning all the time, believe me, pulling up large files takes longer because of this.

Regards,

Marc

Go to device manager and check your video drivers.
Get updated drivers from the Company website.

Is your video card, updated, adequate?

You may want to resest your video card.

Using a laptop or desktop with separate monitor?

Remove the monitor cable from the computer (if desktop) and then connect again.

To make it easier if anyone answers after me, filling in the system specs would really benefit everyone.

I just checked the nvidia site and they have a new driver so I will try that.

But do you really think that because I didn't have that driver that my controls would freeze?

Marc

Actually, I do not think that the driver would freeze the controls, but we have to go one step at a time. Once we know the driver is up to date, we can forget about drivers and move on.

I'm in no rush either as this is something that happens very rarely, but bringing attention because it shouldn't be happening.

I'm downloading the driver now, might be another 10min before I am completely done.

Well, I'm back on here and I think you already know what's up. :)

It happened again on start-up, BUT, this time I clicked like crazy because I was already mad and the screen came back on.

Also for the people who know windows vista there is a small delay before the small circular logo fades in and out with the sound and then either goes to the password or desktop screen.

With me this time was a HUGE delay, I'm talking about even if you are not paying attention, the delay will still get your attention.

It seems to happen when my computer does a "shutdown update".

If I let it, the computer would stay on all night at the same "Installing Update 1 out of 1" screen, and I would have to do a force/hard shutdown/reboot.

I forgot how to go through the cmd screen and reset the installer.

Hope this adds to the info

Marc

Good additional information

When I just got Window 7, there was an update, it asked shut down now?, I said yes.
Well, everything jammed up and had to do the alt+cntrl+delete.
When it asks now, I say no and restart on my own. Give that a try and I think that part of the problem will be solved.

Just type update in search and click on updates. If the updates were already received but they are hidden, just go to that hidden list and install.

If they are not hidden, when you update you will receive them, again.
