Newbie needs help please

Hi there

My old laptop had XP which worked perfectly with my Sony cybershot DSC-S70 camera. 2 - 3 ago I bought a Compaq Presario with inbuilt Vista Home Premium which tells me my camera is not compatible. I contacted Sonym and they said it was a Microsoft problem - and Microsoft said it was a Sony problem. Eventually Sony told me they were not bringing out any software patches for this model, and I should buy a new camera...... to cut a long story short, is there a way I can download whatever I need from an XP programme to allow me to download pics from my camera?

Hello Alfschumway, and welcome to Vista Forums.

If your camera uses a memory card, then you can use a memory card reader on your computer to upload the pics to your computer instead without having to worry about any software or drivers for the camera. If you do not have a memory card reader, you can get them pretty cheap (around $20 or so) these days,

Appreciate your quick reply. I was going to get a card reader as a last resort - it just annoyed me that I couldn't get any sense out of either Sony or Microsoft, so when I found this forum which seems a very friendly place, I thought I would try to flex a few remaining greying brain cells ( plus show my husband that I can still hack it) and load up some much loved XP ware.

After some more research, it is a Sony issue since they did not create and release a driver that is compatible with Vista. The two links below can give you more information on it. It looks like using a memory card reader is the only option.
