Annoying Problem on My Dell Inspiron 1440

Hi! all
i am currently using dell inspiron 1440 laptop with windows vista ultimate 64 bit...

my problem is, that every time i have to use any function key (like f1 or f2 etc) i have to press "Fn" key as well to get the desired result..

for example...

for refreshing any page instead of pressing only "f5".... i have to press "fn+f5" :sa: ..
the same goes with all function keys....

and while playing some games it becomes very annoying to press fn key each time i have to press any function key :( ....

is there any way to reverse the function of fn key...
because by simply pressing f5 my brightness increases  etc...

so all i want is that i should be able to use "only f5" for refreshing the page and "fn+f5" to increase the brightness :) ....
kindly help me out...

Thanks
Narakputra

Seems to be the way your keyboard is suppose to work

named F Lock key. It is mainly for the purpose of changing display or audio settings quickly, such as brightness, contrast, or volume, and is held down in conjunction with the appropriate key to change the settings.Contents

hello
according to the picture in richc46's link and what leo says.. you may be able to press the numbers lock key to change the fn keys functions, (reverse the affects)
If your fn key is a different color, you may have to press it along with a numbers lock key.(the same color as the fn key)

bottom line is, look for a numbers lock key and see if that reverses the affects of the fn key!!.....good luck

ps sorry if i have confused you !!

I have a 1440 and found this a frustrating issue as well. Easy fix. At least on mine. On boot up, select F2 while prompted to get into the Bios. In there, you can select an option to reverse the settings from multimedia to regular function keys. I'm on Windows 7 though, but I imagine the bios is the same or darn similar.
