Vista Sleep "Coma" - Hard Restart Does Nothing

Hi,

So I accidentally put my computer into sleep mode yesterday (I never normally use it) and now it wont start up! The Keyboard and Mouse are both off, and if i push the power button i can hear the computer start up but both the power and working lights stay off and the screen stays black (nothing happens except I can hear the computer running). Ive tried several hard restarts from the computer and turning off all power then turning it on and nothing works! Its a new computer 4 months old and ive had no problems of this sort ever before. It cant even show me a boot screen or BSOD or anything, "coma" is the best way of describing the problem (it definitely works, i can hear it whirring but it just does nothing).

Help!

Turn it off and then during boot hit f8 (safe mode). Once there you can use system restore to go back to good times. If that does not work in Safe mode, check start with last know good configuration.

I was thinking the same thing but the computer doesn't Boot. It doesn't start windows, or display anything on the screen or anything like that. More importantly although i can hear that the computer is on, i cant hear or see it boot up, eg, no revving hard drive and no working lights or power lights are on either. The only sign of life is that i can hear it running quietly as if the computer was idle and not doing anything. I might have to take it to the shop as I don't know whether you guys can help me if the computer has 0% responsiveness and barely any signs of life at all. Is that the best course of action?

Seems that you have a desktop. Pull the plug for 30 minutes and see what happens. In the case that it is a laptop, take out the battery, also. If it does not work, wait a while for other suggestions, before you have to spend money. You are not alone, with this problem, the entire membership of the Forum will stand behind you, and share their experience and knowledge with you. I will give it some additional thought, also.
You would be surprised if you knew how much talent and knowledge there is at this forum.

I told you I would be thinking about this, try this first:

Laptop went n2 sleep mode n will not wake up!

Try all the solutions, but Geekfix seems to have the best.

The best suggestion included in the above link.

Well same thing happen to me. my computer still can't get out of sleep mode. but to solve your turning the computer ON problem. what i do is turn it on, then wait, u will hear the computer turning itself on and off, but nothing is showing on the screen. so make it turn on and off, 3 time.( such as hearing the computer turned off, so that one,THEN IT TURNS ITSELF ON AGAIN, next time it turns off, that count as 2, and so on). on the third shut off then u press and hold the off button, to force it to shut down, then wait. about 5-10min., or less then 5. after then u turn the computer on.it should be on by now. if not try it again. if it happens again try one more time, if it happens again. then there something really wrong with your computer.

Thanks, your right i just wasn't sure whether it was a hardware or software problem. It's a desktop so I've turned it off at the power and unplugged and I'll try to power it up in 1/2 an hour and see how that goes.

From here, I do not know if it is hardware or software, either. Lets just test and if necessary you have to bring it in. My hunch is that it is software; but its just a hunch.

Don't forget about the link that I gave you, above.

Tried all those solutions including Geekfix's, but no luck. I'm really stumped, since i need to get it working fairly quickly I'll take it into the shop tomorrow unless someone has any other ideas?

Thanks for the help so far richc46.

In this situation, I suggest that you just wait, a bit. If no one comes along, it might be best to bring it in. It could very well be hardware. Sorry that we could not get it working again.

Please post back, keep us informed. You will be helping everyone, who has a similar problem in the future.

I will research, if I come up with anything, Ill post.

I am having exactly the same problem with my Asus Lamborghini notebook.

Unfortunately the warranty has expired.

I put my computer to sleep and when I tried to wake it in the morning - I could hear the HD spinning up but no screen. I turned it off. Waited over the weekend with the battery out - still nothing.

No bios screen, no beeps, no display - Just the power button would be on. The HD light would flicker for awhile.

Its using Vista.
