access rights to usb connected drive??

not long now

My old laptop has suffered a catastrophic overheating/screen/videocard etc failure. Anyway, I had most things backed up, but am trying to recover some remaining emails from windows mail. I have removed the drive from the laptop, slotted it into a usb-sata drive adaptor and am able to access the root listings on it. When I try to access the 'users' to get into the \Users\(your account)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail files to grab the emails, that's fine, then when I try for my account, I don't have permission, click continue to get permission etc but then it just seems to loop away to itself. The original laptop had 2 users set up, neither password protected, and the one I'm accessing the usb drive from has just one user. Any ideas greatfully received...
