Hello,

I would like your help on how to solve the issue with my Vista desktop. When online, it was freezing, and I then turned it off because it won't allow me to shut off using the Start button. I then turned it on, and the statement appeared on the black screen.

Setting has failed to POST.
System is using default settings for this POST attempt.
Press F1 to continue.
Press F2 to enter SETUP to adjust OC/OV settings.

I pressed F1 and it came on with no problem. But, it continues doing that kind of statement after turned it off for a day. It won't disappear because it looks like I need to press F2 to solve it. Please direct me to some sites or others for this kind of issue. If I need to press F2, what will happen and what do I do with it?

Thanks.

Hello chimp78,
Press F2 to enter setup and set the Bios to default, normally F5.
Reboot and see if it is fixed.
As for the lockups on-line, is it when you are using IE, if so, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced, and press the reset button, this will set IE to default settings, the chances are that it is an add-on causing the lockups.
Make sure they are all disabled, Tools > Manage add-ons.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

First of all Mate,

.....welcome to Vista Forums, but before you go any further, it will help those able and willing to help you, if you would just go to your User CP and fill in as much detail of your specifications as you possibly can. It only takes a few minutes to do this, and is quite painless. It does stop others beating their heads down onto their desktops.....so please just do it.

I believe that you may get a quicker response, if your thread is posted in the Vista Forum - Overclocking and Cooling. The techos there love to get their teeth into something like this.

To give you an idea of what your main problem could be, I suggest that you have a look at a similar event from the Dell Forum. As a matter of interest, is your system from the Dell stable.....your system specs will soon tell all! See, at the moment we're all guessing!! Have a quick look here;

All the best.
