I have tweaked the scheduler to only have a system restore once a day. I also used Brink's (Shawn's) tutorial to size it for 8 restore point (approx). I then created a shortcut for the restore dialogue (rstrui.exe in system32 for V64) on my task bar, as I, like many of you. constantly tweak until something goofs up. So I create restore points quickly when I want.
As an aside, when trouble shooting my event log not starting, I noticed system restore was not working either. Rumor has it that the task scheduler relies on the Event log. Not sure, but sounds possible.
