Vista Not Detecting Inserted Discs

Hi,

When I put a disk into my CD/DVD drive and then go into Computer and click my E: drive, all I get is the 'Please insert disc into E: ...' message. Up until a few days ago the exact same discs were working with my system, and they're working because I've run them on my PS3 to check.

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

I had this problem and fixed it by cleaning the lens with a little Isopropyl Alcohol on a cotton bud

@kenny - I checked Autoplay and tried those support tools but neither helped - thanks anyway.

@ilikefree - You might be right here, it's the most logical explanation now you say it. The computer is only a few months old bought direct from Dell, so might be able to get them to fix it under the 12 month warranty.. Fingers crossed..

Thanks guys

has this problem recently started? you could try system restore!

start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore...pick a date before problems started....best of luck

Yes, it's only been happening for 2 weeks or so.

I'm pretty good with computers, but I will admit that a system restore scares me - worried about the loss of key files etc?

did you install any programs around the time that it stopped working? mainly burning software(roxio, nero, ect)?

turn off your pc and unplug it, disconnect and reconnect the data and power cable of your disc drive
sometimes the cables get loosen and causes weird problems
