Vista doesnt detect any cdrom???

Hi,

have looked through other helpful posts on here regarding the Autorun problems, having looked into that i checked all registry entries etc that were fine, however, i dont have the NoDriveTypeAutoRun where it should be all i have is

BindDirectlyToPropertySetStorage

This doesnt seem to tie in with the write ups i have looked at and cant find the NoDriveTypeAutoRun. Also, there is no action when i insert the cdrom or dvd etc into the pc, have looked to find the manual start procedure but cant see anything in there, what drive should i be looking in???

here is a fixit from m$, see if it helps... are you installing a new cd/dvd drive, or did yours just go missing?

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

Hi, it does not play at all, and no cd drive is shown in the computer to click on it manually, its as if theres nothing in at all???

Its a newish pc and ive just tried to run programs, so its never worked really unlike some other people who said theirs did work originally then stopped.

Also i recently downloaded Limewire as i previously used on other pc's, but was convinced to get rid of it as its bad for viruses etc, although i did download one song before uninstalling it, could it be related???

did the cd/dvd drive ever work?

PS: Iv'e had limewire for three year never an issue!!

PSS: is the drive listed in BIOS or disk management??

As said, its the first time ive tried using the drive, its just to install programs for my digi camera and mobile phone suite etc.

Currently running Mozilla Firefox and tried the link you listed before but it wouldnt repair automatically saying the browser im using isnt currently configured???

Unsure how to check the drive to see if its listed, how do i do this??? Thanks for replys guys.:D

anything doing with ms has to be done thru internet explorer!

Ok, just ran the fix it program, came back with the drive is not detected, what does this mean??? The unit is a Medion, im assuming like any other new pc you dont have to do anything and it should work from factory???

yes it should, does it show up in BIOS or disk management?

start > right click "computer" > manage > click OK @ UAC prompt > disk management (left hand side) is it listed there?

Only shows BOOT (C) and RECOVER (D)

Am i right in saying there should be a specific drive also that isnt showing then??? If so, is this more a build problem that should be raised with the manufacturer?

check to see if its listed in BIOS, restart the computer and start tapping the f2 key when you see the mfgrs splashscreen (logo), you will enter a screen, the tab you should start on will be "information"

see if theres a listing something like... ATAPI Model Name HI_DT_ST DVDRAM GSA_T5ON
Dont change anything there just look and see if its listed !! after you look and see, press the f10 key to exit (you may have to press enter after f10) it will reboot normal after that!! ...post back

When pressing F2 it takes me into "windows boot manager" and just asks of how i want to run the system, no information tab etc.

Have accessed BIOS on my old XP system previously and remember seeing that kinda info but isnt like that on this pc, any other way of accessing it???

could you use the left and right arrow keys to get to any other tabs? Iv'e never seen one with just one tab!
whats the make and model? how old is this (laptop or desktop)? you may need to contact the mfgr...

The Medion may be using a different Function key. When the splash screen comes up, look what it says for BIOS setup and keep tapping that key.

It doesnt say anything about BIOS etc when starting up, my last Packard Bell did.

Its a Medion Akoya E4012 D, pentium dual core, 4gig Ram. Its a desktop and less than a year old.

last thing I can suggest is open it up and make sure everything is plugged in and looking normal... just be careful (unplug the pc)... good luck

Found the BIOS entry, hold DEL whilst booting the Medion till the screen appears.

Had a look and there is Primary master, Primary slave, then another 3 drives i think and one with Hitachi and numbers etc, but looking at the drive on my machine, its stamped as LG???

What should i look for in the BIOS really??? Sorry for the hassle, but im not a complete whizz at this stuff, once again thanks for your patience and input guys.

Is it listed in Device Manager?

Easiest is to go to where it says "Boot" (navigate with up/down and left/right arrow keys). See whether the CD/DVD drive is listed there. But do not change any settings. When you are done "exit without change" - it should say on the bottom which key to hit (usually ESC) and when it shows Exit Yes/No, highlight YES (if it is not lit already) and hit Enter.

PS: best print this little instruction so that you have it handy when you are in the BIOS.
