Media files playing too fast

Hi. I'm asking this on behalf of my brother who lives abroad so my knowledge of his problem is not first hand. Seems that, ever since copying a music album to CD, any media he attempts to play IN BOTH WMP AND REALPLAYER plays too fast. This includes the CD he burnt although the CD is fine in a normal CD player. Can anyone suggest cause and cure? My thanks in advance.

Hello pooksahib,
Is the music playing faster, or is it just high pitched ?.
Does this happen with video or just audio files, and is it on all type of audio files played through WMP ?.
Does he have a sound card, or direct sound from the MB ?

Go to Control Panel.
Double click the 'System' icon.
Click the Hardware tab.
Click the Device Manager button.
You will see a list of hardware devices recognised by your system.
Do any of them have a red or yellow symbol after the name?
If so look at the properties of the device indicated (by double clicking on it).

Also, can you post some system specs too, thanks.

Has your brother tried any other media players? Many media players have a speed control setting. For example VLC Media Player can be set to display the speed control setting so you can always access it when you need to. To display this setting, go to: Tools, Preferences, Advanced Settings, down at the lower-left corner of the menu, Show Settings: select: All

Hi again. This from little brother - "Found the speed setting and it is not that. Speed is ok it is the voices sound really tinny, as though it is playing slightly fast but it is not."

Unfortunately, he's not the best at locating system specs and wouldn't know a sound card from a credit card. Sounds to me like he might have blown his speakers. I'll maybe suggest he buys a pair of external ones. But I'll have one last go at teaching him how to get some usable data from his machine...
