My suggestion is to go to search, type notification, then once in notification make sure that the network icon is checked.

That didn't work either. I can find everywhere being directed but no icon in notification bar and it is greyed out when I go to properties for bar.

try going to the properties tab (again) notification tab (again) put a check in the box "hide inactive icons" then click on "customize" then click "default settings" see if that helps...good luck
