Problems after reinstall os,PS/2 keyboard error and antivirus error

Hello everyone,

today I have re-installed my Vista x64, because the system was really slow and messy. So I've downloaded the latest drivers for my hardware and started with installation. First I updated BIOS to version 0501 (build date 12/08/09), then unpluged all periferies except keyboard and mouse, unpluged the internet cable, unplugged the second "data" HDD from MB and then started with installing Vista. After installation I installed all drivers for MB, graphic card, sound card and recent software IntelliPoint and IType for my keyboard and mouse. Then I installed NOD 32 and set all possible resident check procedures in NOD to on. Then I installed the Spybot with offline update package "Spybot_includes" and immunized the system. After all this i connected to Internet and let Vista download all updates. After all this I ran System Diagnostic Report and I was unpleasantly surprised. Exept fact, that my second "data" HDD has very low free space, there were other error messeages.

The first one is:
A device has a configuration problem that prevents it from working properly.
Details: The device, Standard PS/2 Keyboard, is reporting "tv_ConfigMgrErr24". This device will not be available until the issue is resolved. The Plug and Play ID for this device is ACPI\PNP0303\4-23F9C1E3-0.

The second one is:
The Security Center has not recorded an anti-virus product.

I opened the Device Manager and make visible the hidden device. Under my Microsoft USB Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 is another, Standard PS/2 Keyboard. Device status says :This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24). I tried to update manually the "device " driver, but updater didn't found better driver than the present. I don't use any PS/2 periferies or any USB/PS/2 reductions.

My PC is:
ASUS P5E Deluxe, socket 775
Intel Core2Quad Q6600 (not OC)
2048 MB of RAM
GeForce 8600 GTS (not OC)
Creative X-Fi Fatality (not OC :))

And example from my settings in Bios.

USB Configuration:
USB Functions: Enabled
USB 2.0 Controller: Enabled
USB 2.0 Controller mode: Hi-Speed
Bios EHCI Hand-off : Diabled
Port 64/64 Emulation : Disabled
Legacy USB Support : Enabled

Plug & Play OS: Yes

However, In the DMA table after start-up the PC is one funny row: PS/2 Mouse : Present.

I have no idea, where the problem can be. Can someone please help me with these problems? In attachments is whole diagnostic log.

If you have a PS2-option in BIOS try to disable it. You could also try disabling the support or USB-legacy hardware unless you actually use any. If you can't get rid of the error, try uninstalling your keyboard software. If that helps, then contact the software manufacturer for a patch.

As for your hard drive, having low space is no error. Windows just gave you a warning message. Regarding the anti-virus complaint. The log-file says:

"2. If an anti-virus product is installed and functioning configure Security Center to stop monitoring anti-virus status."

This implies that Windows might not detect all anti-virus suites. This seems to be the case here. This is no error, but also just a warning.

Hi Mexxi,

I have no PS/2 options in my BIOS. I've changed the USB legacy settings to Disabled (with this change the USB 2.0 Controller mode row has dissapeared too), but the error with the "PS/2 Keyboard" still remains. However, I even don't know what device this "PS/2 Keyboard" entry can represent. After uninstalling the IType software for my keyboard the row in Device manager - Microsoft USB Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 has been renamed to HID keyboard Device. The second "device" Standart PS/2 Keyboard still remains. I have also tried to replace the BIOS with the older one 0405. Without effect.

And to the antivirus problem. I have read somewhere, that Eset sometimes block the updates for not-leg. and trial versions of NOD 32. The whole day i'm triing to update this NOD antivir, but every time i get messeage: The update is not necessary. You have the most recent version of the database. However the AV database is dated 4754 (20100108), what is over 1 month old :) I assume, that after it would be possible to update the NOD 32, the antivirus warning from SYS Diagnostic Report will dissapear.

Strange that disabling legacy usb-support removes USB 2.0-support. That shouldn't be. At first I assumed that the legacy support might make Windows fool into thinking that a PS2-keyboard might be attached, but that obviously isn't the case. I guess it's either a Vista issue, or one of the chipset driver of your mainboard. Try updating those if you haven't done so already. Other than that, I'm all out of ideas other than recommending the switch to Windows 7 ;)

Hi Mexxi,
I assume, that after it would be possible to update the NOD 32, the antivirus warning from SYS Diagnostic Report will dissapear.

You should contact the manufacturer of the antivirus software because of this issue. The update itself shouldn't help much getting the software recognized by Windows. That's an update that has to come from Microsoft. Also, AV-updates usually only contain virus signatures, so nothing essential for Windows. And last but not least, Windows complained about not detecting any antivirus software and not about it being outdated, so a mere signature update shouldn't make Windows suddenly recognize the software. Anyway, this isn't crucial anyway. Whether Windows sees your AV-software or not doesn't influence NOD's functionality, so just deactivate this option in the security center or ignore it.

No no, I sayed, that with disabling "Legacy USB Support" in BIOS has dissapeared only The "USB 2.0 Controller Mode" (where was 2 modes to choose: "Hi-Speed" and "FullSpeed")

The "USB 2.0 Controller" row (so the USB 2.0 support itself) stayed enabled and visible.

I'm out of ideas too. Maybe it really causes any of the motherboard drivers (as I sayed, i downloaded all the latest drivers), but I won't dowload all previous versions of drivers for my MB and trying to "fit" with one to solve this problem.

I will hope, that this software conflict of physically non-existing piece of hardware will not cause any further problems.

Ah I see. Well, I take it that you didn't have this problem on your old Vista-install, so this could only be caused by either newer drivers or updates that weren't present back then. Your system doesn't seem to have any problems though. If your keyboard works otherwise, then just ignore the error. You will install a new operating system sooner or later and this will hopefully cure the error, regardless of what has caused it.
