Log on password

Hey guys,

Anyways, I'm new here, this is my first thread. So I need help with this one thing, and to know if it's possible (hopefully it is!).

So, I have my computer, and I need to set a password, but if I do, what happens is that it loads the user selection screen first, even though I'm the only user. Because of that, if I turn on my computer, go downstairs to do something,and come back up 5 minutes later, the computer will be stuck on the user selection screen, whereas if I don't have a password, it'll automatically load all the applications (this takes a while...).

Is there any way to still have to enter a password to unlock the computer, but so that Windows would first load all the programs, and THEN ask me for a password?

Hello Megaga, and welcome to Vista Forums.

When a user account has a password, you will have to enter the password for it in the log on screen at startup first before it will load the user account and it's startup programs. You cannot have the startup programs load first since Vista does not know which one to load until you log on to the user account. Even with just one user account. :(

If you like you can have Vista startup automatically into your use acccount without having to enter the password, but still have to enter a password if you lock the computer or just log off.

The password is for your protection. If someone else were to use the computer, you would not want them to see your loaded user account.

If you are the only user, set the user account to start with out the password.

If you want the password to be protection from others, it works the way it should

That's really too bad. I guess no password for me :(
It's just that sometimes my parents decide to check my PC, and it's pretty annoying. I don't have anything to hide, its just really annoying. That's what I currently have, I have a password, but it doesn't ask for one at startup, but if I lock it, it will ask for one...
But then you can just restart the computer to unlock it...
I have lots of start-up programs such Anti-viruses, and other stuff.
Well thanks for the help anyways. It just seems that they could make it startup, and then automatically go as if I "locked" it, that way the programs are loaded, and the PC still asks for a password. It seems kinda stupid not to have included this feature.
Does anyone know if you can do this in Widows 7 btw?
