I am trying to install a program called postgresSQL a database program that creates a user (postgres) during install. I have installed the program before, created an account and forgot the password . I am trying to re-install the program and it still see the old user and wants the password.

The program says the solution for this is to.....

control panel>admin tools>comp management>local user and groups delete "postgres". local users is not there on home premium, handled by user accounts .

or

run
net user postgres /delete This gives me error 5 access is denied

not sure where to go from here???

question before i start down this road.

there is only one user account that i can see.

so what is the difference between the user account i see and this "postgres" account?

does your above help still apply?

Type postgres in search and maybe we can find out something, like location.

I think what is happeningis that the program in question is just like any other program. It operates within the user accounts and can be deleted using Revno. Not being within close distance of your computer, I cannot check things out myself and depend upon your answers.

We can solve your problem, I just need to know, if there is a separate user account, created by the program, with its own password or is it just a regular program requriring a password.
I doubt if it has its own account.

Go to control panel, programs, if it is listed we can use Revno.

But we will make a system restore point, first.

The program is not listed under programs, i uninstalled version 8.3 and i am trying to install 8.4.

when i seach for postgres all i see are two installer packages that no longer exist and can't be deleted? sloppy unistall?

and as i type i found the other account.. dumb mistake i will give you an update if i still have problems,

thanks for you help

My Computer

Read my posts again, I tried to make them more understandable.

Ill be waiting. Remember before you try anything make a system restore point. So we can change what you did if necessary. Good luck.

Rich,

Wanted to let you know that everything is working for me.

Once i located the user, I was able to delete it and reinstall the new version.

I also had to deactivate UAC? to get the program working properly.

Thanks for all your help on this and your prompt response, i am sure i will be back :)
